The Primer Plano intensive course at the Ateneo is designed so that ALL actors, in different enrollments, can attend 45 hours of live training with the teachers of Film Acting, Assumpta Serna and Scott Cleverdon.

OFF BOOK Publishing answers many of the questions that an actor does not have solved today:

Do you have a videobook I can see?

That’s the question that makes actors nervous. Don’t you have one? Or, worse yet, are you embarrassed by the one you have? Then you know the feeling. They say that luck is the result of preparation at the moment the opportunity presents itself. Well, that simple question will tell you if you’re lucky or if you’re out, right then and there.
Every actor knows they need a videobook. But what are they really looking for? This book is your answer.

Because this book is different

We have trained more than 3,000 actors in on-camera technique over 25 years, and have mentored them in the development of their careers. From the beginning, the need arose to write original texts so that actors could work, record and, hopefully, shine in their videobooks. We present our first selection of these texts in two volumes: two in Spanish(Monólogos para protagonistas Vol.1 and Monólogos para protagonistas Vol 2) and two in English ( Take the lead Vol.1 and Take the Lead Vol.2). You can buy them here.

Each text is accompanied by why it was inspired, with tips and advice on how to record them. Think of it as “author’s notes” so you can act with complete confidence and assurance.

Finally, we hope these pieces can give you the inspiration you need to find your authentic self in front of the camera.

In English and Spanish for a global market

For the global world we live in, it is in your interest to have a monologue in your videobook or showreel showing that you can act in English. These texts will give you the possibility to work also outside your country.

Another way to impact the viewer

Other books classify their monologues into two simple categories: comedy and drama. Sure, some texts here are comedy (or at least we hope so) and others are drama, but isn’t real life a mix of everything?

They used to be classified for men or for women or whoever you want to be. Many of our texts work for either gender.

How we have divided the texts in this book

Rather than grouping these monologues into broad, arbitrary categories, we have organized them according to what motivates the character to speak and the viewer to listen.

  • Head, texts that keep them intrigued
  • Guts, texts that impress them
  • Heart, texts that inspire to love you

And then there is one more category that is a bit out of the conventional, but could be useful:

  • Period piece,, texts that make them dream.
